Why Many Students Struggle to Start MUN
Many students want to explore global issues and build strong public speaking skills. However, they often feel unsure about where to begin. Moreover, many assume that Model United Nations (MUN) is only for advanced debaters. This assumption, however, overlooks what MUN is designed to do. MUN actually offers a step-by-step environment where beginners can learn diplomacy, negotiation, and critical thinking.
What MUN Really Teaches
In simple terms, MUN simulates United Nations conferences. Participants represent countries and discuss global challenges. Consequently, they learn to build arguments, consider other nations’ perspectives, and collaborate with peers from different backgrounds. In addition, they gain practical communication skills that rarely appear in standard classroom lessons. As a result, MUN becomes an effective platform for students who wish to develop essential real-world competencies.
How GM MUN Supports First-Time Delegates
Global Millennial Model United Nations (GM MUN) provides a structure that helps beginners feel prepared. For this reason, the program includes coaching clinics, guidance from experienced chairs, and personalised feedback after each session. Furthermore, these features attract many newcomers who want a safe learning environment. Last year, the Jakarta edition welcomed more than 350 delegates from 10 countries. Consequently, the event showed strong interest from both local and international communities.
GM MUN 2026: Levels and Format
GM MUN 2026 will return to Jakarta with two council levels:
-
Junior Level for students under 15
-
Senior Level for ages 15-20
The conference will take place on 12–14 June 2026 at the Mercure Convention Center Ancol. Registration opens 1-31 December. Therefore, early registration is strongly recommended to secure the best rates and ensure a spot before capacity is reached.
Why Students Should Join
GM MUN 2026 offers a complete and supportive learning experience. Participants receive diplomatic training, join cross-national discussions, and explore global issues from multiple viewpoints. Moreover, the environment encourages collaboration rather than competition, making it ideal for first-time delegates. Consequently, students gain confidence while also sharpening their communication and problem-solving skills.
