Lessons from GM Model United Nations Yogyakarta
GM MUN Yogyakarta highlighted an important lesson: strong performance comes from preparation, not confidence alone. Many delegates struggled because they entered council sessions with limited research or unclear policy positions. Others faced difficulties due to a weak understanding of rules of procedure or low engagement during negotiations and resolution drafting.
Delegates who stood out were those who understood their country’s stance, actively participated in discussions, and collaborated with different blocs. These lessons show that preparation directly influences confidence, clarity, and impact inside the council.

Next, practice public speaking and prepare a clear, structured position paper. Strong opening speeches and well-written policy positions help you gain credibility early in the conference.
You should also master the rules of procedure. Understanding motions, debate formats, and voting processes will help you participate confidently and strategically throughout the sessions.
